Ted, I was wondering what the maximum lbs you crank your bow to when you are hunting rocky mtn elk and mule deer??? I read your article in Archery Business and you were talking about the two biggest problems you see with Archers was wrong draw length and the bow set at too high of lbs.

I use real lightweight bows in the 50-55 pound range for all big game. grace & smoothness mean everything to my accuracy job one!! I use a 2 edge NugentBlade b head for max penetration. goodluck, BloodBrothers, Ted

Do you agree with allowing crossbow use during bow season?

I believe crossbows should be legal for all legal hunters from the opening day of firearms season 11-15 thru the end of all deer seasons. I also agree with the professional biologists that MI & most states bow season should begin 9-1 & go thru 2-1 of the following year with baglimits appropriate to regional balance needs. I believe that QDM should be decided region by region by a vote by the licensed hunters. There is no doubt that our deer herd would improve dynamically & hunt opps would as well. I'd like to learn to shoot by canting my bow and focusing on the spot I want to hit. Since virtually no one I know can survive without sights, I figured I'd ask someone who knew all about it. How do you shoot by canting your bow? What kind of arrow rest do you need to do this?

The Mystical Flight of the Arrow is at its very best when shooting without sights and the bow canted on an angle to one side, believe me! This instinctive style of shooting is very rare out here today, but I have taught many to try it and everytime, they love it. It takes an immense amount of diligent practice, but I am convinced it is the deadliest in actual hunting situations. You want a bow with a grip that rides as high as possible to the arrow shelf, and a rest that puts the arrow as close to your griphand as possible. Tilt your bow about 40' away from the arrow, concentrate on the smallest spot you want to hit, say a little prayer, and pull smoothly with your back muscles to set the arrow free. You may want to anchor above your lip or just under your dominant eye, but teach yourself not to look down the arrow but rather FEEL the natural hand eye pointability that you have like when throwing a baseball. I use the BoDoodle, and Golden Key Futura arrow rests that allow me to keep the arrow as low as I can. Goodluck!!

Dear Ted-I've gun hunted for years (a proud NRA member), but never with a bow. My wife bought me a very nice Darton bow for Christmas. I'm eager to use it, but I'm also a very ethical hunter and don't want to risk maiming something due to my incompetence. What is the right way to start shooting? Barry Castle Canton, MI p.s. I truly appreciate the way you never lighten your stance on gun and hunting issues, family values, true-north direction, etc. Thank you so much for doing what you do.

Salute BC for being an NRA warrior. I'm with you all the way. I also salute you for your honest dedication to the ethics that run so strong in our honorable hunting culture. You make us proud. Darton makes some of the best bows in the world, so now all you gotta do is practice, practice, practice. But always practice thoughtfully and smart. Make each arrow count, and start each session at very close range, say about 15 feet from your bullseye to hone your form and natural hand eye coordination. Be sure to get some coaching from your local archery proshop buddy. There are also some great videos out there. Visit tednugent.com for some great insight.

I have a problem, my bow is noisy. I have installed limb savers on my bow but it is noisy. I do not use a stabilizer.Any suggestions on what I can do to quiet my bow?

Be sure to install the SIMS Enhancer 2000 stabilizer & the xtension that goes on it, plus the SIMS String Leeches string silencers & even their insulated grip wrap. I double the Limb Savers on my bows & all this stuff quiets em down perfectly!! You will be pleased I promise!! Goodluck, BloodBrothers, Ted

My question is, how hard is it to tune a two bladed broadhead as opposed to a three or four blade to get the ultimate mystical flight of the arrow?

As long as the arrow is properly spined & good 5" helical fletch is used, you got venison!!! IF the Great Spirit of awareness & discipline is with you!! I am!! Godbless, BloodBrothers, Ted

What is the best broadhead to use while turkey hunting?

The best broadhead for all bowhunting including turkey is the sharpest, strongest head you can shoot accurately, period. A turkey is a big, tuff critter & takes all the killing a deer does. I use my proven Nugent Blade 2 blade by Magnus Broadheads & I dont buy butterballs. goodluck, BloodBrothers, Ted

Ted, what are the advantages and disadvantages of an aluminum arrow vs. a carbon arrow? I shoot a 2213 Easton aluminum arrow with 125 grain NugentBlade broadhead and was thinking of switching to a carbon arrow next year with the same broadhead. Curt Stahler -TNUSA Michigan Regional Director

Hey Curt! Carbons are more durable & seem to deliver a hair more kinetic energy. Other than that, don't matter. BBT

Dear Ted, Who did the zebra stripe paint job on the Bronco. How could you put that pattern on a bow? Would you have to take it somewhere or could you do it yourself with spray paint. Thanks Kevin TNUSA Member

FoMoCo custom shop!! You could try to paint it but I wouldn't!

Hi Ted, I'm going for Cape Buffalo this May and would like to know what arrow combination did you use on buff? Thank you- Richard

Ahhh, the mighty Cape Buf!! You're in for some bigfun my friend. I have bowkilled numerous African Cape Buffalo with my bow dating back to 1978 in the Sudan. I remember it like it were today!! A 75# bow will do the job with a 600+ grain arrow and a razorsharp, strong 2 blade head like Magnus, Zwickey or Bear. Avoiding the massive shoulder blade is imperative. The most important preparation for dangerous game bowhunting is mental. Think BUFFALO!! Think DEATH! Be the ultimate BadAss predator you can be and pick that ultra sweetspot right behind the shoulder at the top of the crease, 1/3 way up from the bottom. The beast MUST be broadside or slightly quartering away, but not too much of an angle. Did I mention THINK BUFFALO!! Get yuour predator mind right & shoot straight & celebrate the beast!! Goodluck!! Send photos!

Ted I am thinking of switching from Muzzys to your cut on contact broadheads, the Nugent Blade. I fletch my own arrows so I need to know if the fletching needs to line up with the blades or up and down with knock. I also use straight fletch, should I do helical?

You will not be let down my friend!! I am convinced beyond any shadow of a doubt that the traditional 2 blade broadhead design is THE killingest head of all. Period. Fletch alignment is unnecessary, but a high profile feather like Gateway's leftwing shield cut fletched hard helical is by far the best. Be sure to sharpen the hell out of em with the Fortune Products Deluxe sharpener, as its angle matches the NugeBlade. Goodluck.

Ted:I have been bowhunting for 25 years now, and have to say it is one of my favorite sports. Historically, I have used heavier aluminum arrows (due to higher draw weights) and 125 gr. 3-blade replacement blade broadheads (Wasp, Rocky Mountain, and Thunderhead) for stabilized flight and balance. This year I purchased a new bow and decided to go with the Gold Tip 7595 Hunter arrows. I have also decided to change broadheads with the new arrows, and was considering a fixed blade tip such as the NugentBlade in 100 gr. or 125 gr. Do you have any information on how well your broadheads perform with the Gold Tips (balance, straitness, and true flight)? Which would be better, 100 or 125 grain tips?

I've used GoldTip 7595s with NugeBlade 100s for years!! Do it!
