Letter to the NRA: The power of Ted Nugent

Dear NRA,

I have waited patiently, maybe too patiently, for the NRA to discover the power of Ted Nugent.

Having been to a couple of NRA conventions, I have seen the large banners of other celebrities that supposedly support the NRA. They may support the NRA with their membership, but they don’t support it through their actions and words. Know this: Ted Nugent is the only recognized celebrity that daily promotes the NRA via the mass media.

After seeing Ted Nugent pack an overflowing room with thousands of NRA membersat the recent NRA convention in Pittsburgh, maybe now the NRA will discover the power of Ted Nugent.

Maybe now the NRA will realize that Ted Nugent’s no-holds-barred, bold message is what the rank and file membership wants, appreciates and understands.

Maybe now the NRA will realize that Ted Nugent brings positive visibility to the NRA. An entire article was dedicated to Ted Nugent’s presentation in the Pittsburgh newspaper.

Maybe now the NRA will begin planning an even bigger event for Ted Nugent at next year’s convention in Houston. Ted Nugent alone can draw tens of thousands of gun owners, hunters and, more importantly, a new demographic of non-gun owners to the convention.

Maybe now the NRA will realize why the viewers have rated his Spirit of the Wild television program as the number one program on the Outdoor Channel.

Maybe now the NRA will see why his book 'God, Guns & Rock N Roll' reached the prestigious New York Times bestseller list.

Maybe now the NRA will begin to understand the not-so-subtle pro-gun/pro-hunt message he weaves into all of his mass media interviews. Maybe the NRA will now begin to see that Ted Nugent takes the NRA’s message beyond the pro-gun adherents and into the cars and living rooms of mainstream America.

Maybe now the NRA will realize that Ted Nugent is the missing link in promoting, never defending, the rights, privileges and freedoms of Americans to own guns for any number of reasons.

Maybe now the NRA will realize why Ted Nugent is the bane of anti-gun and anti-hunting supporters. If his message is enough to cause consternation in the very groups that seek to destroy gun rights and hunting, the NRA should consider using Ted Nugent in its campaign to promote our causes and beliefs.

Maybe now the NRA will harness the power of Ted Nugent’s relentless campaign to promote the NRA.

I will be watching over the next couple of months how the NRA reacts to the packed room in Pittsburgh. Let us hope the NRA leadership saw what I did.

Regards,
Ward Parker
