Republican rocker Ted Nugent set to attack liberal tolerance in address to
Northwestern University

By Jerome C. Pandell

Northwestern will contract a case of "Cat Scratch Fever" tonight, courtesy rock star Ted Nugent. But The Daily knows his remedy. The Republican activist said in a phone interview Wednesday that he is coming to "eliminate the obstacle course of stupidity" preventing people from living the American dream.

Nugent said students can "expect a fire on that stage to be coming out of my ass." His talk, a self- described "humor orgy of the spirit," will tackle several issues from gun control to rock 'n' roll to smokin' a bowl.

"If (students in attendance) are doing drugs, they should stop now or they will come and hurt themselves," Nugent said. "I will confuse them so much that they will piss their pants."

As an officer for the Drug Abuse Resistance Education, or D.A.R.E., program since 1982, Nugent has a low tolerance for drug use -- and he doesn't like people who say the program doesn't work.

"People that drool and funk and die are not my funking peers," Nugent said. "Unless (the critics) can come up with something better, they can kiss my ass."

America has become dangerously tolerant of such an "asshole lifestyle," said Nugent, adding that young people need to shape up for there to be any hope for the future.

"College students got to quit smoking dope and quit having drunken bashes and quit having fast food until they look like beached whales," he said. "When you're fat, stupid, drunk and high and worried about pierced body parts and haircuts instead of the American dream, your personal hygiene fails."

Although she has never heard Nugent speak, College Republicans President Katie Althen said her group is bringing him to campus because it wanted to hold an event addressing guns in America -- a topic Nugent, a member of the National Rifle Association's Board of Directors, is particularly vocal about.

"College Republicans is definitely not looking for extreme, right-wing speakers in the people we bring to campus," said Althen, a Weinberg senior. "We look for speakers who bring a variety of perspectives on different issues."

Nugent said he believes civilian police forces should be created to stop attacks on innocent Americans. "The average response of citizens is to whimper and hide under a table," Nugent said. "There's got to be an entire network of civilian, armed deputies out there.

"It's up to we, the people, to stop evil, and you can only do that with a gun."

Several of the nation's problems result from liberal "academia who have bent over backwards to be tolerant of evil," Nugent said. "This liberal-tolerance mantra is like being tolerant of a dog foaming at the mouth that's gnawing on your daughter's leg," Nugent said. "Shoot the funking dog!"

While his appearance is sponsored by College Republicans, Nugent said Republican politicians now in office are not doing their job. He called "the funking Democrats nothing short of the mouthpiece for pimps, whores and welfare brats."

"(The liberals and the Internal Revenue Service) are waging a bloodsucking jihad on the hard-working people of this nation," he said. "You cannot help the wage earner by pulling down the wage payer. ... The homeless choose to be homeless. If they had taken 10 more steps beyond where they're begging for money, they would have found a help-wanted sign."

Nugent also said "evil forces" still are at play in Illinois, calling the decision in January by former Gov. George Ryan to grant clemency to 167 death row inmates "embarrassing."

"I don't believe there's any state much worse than Illinois, except for California," he said.

When Nugent travels from his home in Lansing, Mich., to the Evanston Campus in the humble state of Illinois tonight at 7:30 p.m. for his speech in the Ryan Family Auditorium, there's no telling if he'll be packing heat.

"Good should never be forced to be unarmed," he said.
