Ted Nugent tops early fair sales
by The Herald Staff

Rock legend Ted Nugent appears to be the hot ticket for this summer's Benton Franklin Fair & Rodeo. About 300 people were lined up at the fairgrounds by 6 a.m. Saturday, two hours before the sales office opened, said manager Lori Lancaster.

The fair is Aug. 24-28, with Nugent scheduled to hit the stage Aug. 25.

"He was really the outstanding one, and then I would say The Beach Boys and Rick Springfield after that," Lancaster said of ticket sales.

Rounding out the lineup for fair week are Three Dog Night and Luke Bryan.

One of the office's three registers went down, so Lancaster couldn't say just how much they brought in with ticket sales. She said the office will have to process the receipts by hand Monday.

Lancaster said people drove from Spokane, Portland and Seattle to buy tickets between 8 a.m. and noon. About 10 tents were set up on the grounds by people who started waiting in line as early as Thursday morning.

Fair officials provide a free breakfast to those in line.

"We ran out of pancake syrup, which has never happened before," Lancaster said. "It seemed like a really good crowd. Lots and lots of people were really interested in the concerts and the carnival tickets."

The concerts will start at 7:30 p.m. each night. Reserved seats for the demolition derby, rodeo and concerts are $10 and do not include admission to the fair. Advance fair admission is $10, which comes with general seating for entertainment.
