'You can't stop the beast': Ted Nugent is back to rock Waco
By Carl Hoover

It’s a week before a warm-up concert for Ted Nugent’s new 19-show “I Still Believe” summer tour, and he outlined the challenge at hand: “We worked on our set list for this and it was 18 hours long, but what are you going to cut? ‘Stranglehold?’ ‘Cat (Scratch Fever)?’ ‘Whang Dang (Sweet Poontang)?’ ‘Fred Bear?’ ‘Free-for-All?’ ” he asked rhetorically.

Maybe an 18-hour set list is an exaggeration, but there’s no doubt Nugent’s got plenty of music in mind for his April 14 show at Hog Creek Icehouse. He’s got a new album, “I Still Believe.” He’s joined again by longtime Nugent players Greg Smith on bass and Mitch Brown on drums. Local friends and rockers David Zychek and the Calvin Ross Band will be opening for him.

And Derek St. Holmes, the lead singer in the Ted Nugent Band of the 1970s, will join Uncle Ted’s band for the summer leg of the tour, although it’s not sure if he can get away for the three Texas dates that Nugent will use to hone his band into road warrior condition.
