The Gift of Meat
Lansing, MI - There are few crimes more heinous than stealing from the poor. But that's that exactly what happened at the Volunteers of America Shelter in Lansing, Michigan. The Larch Street Shelter was robbed of more than $1000 worth of meat and food earmarked for the homeless-and just when they needed it most. Michigan's faltering economy, combined with one of the worst winters on record, have led to shortages at shelters state-wide. So the theft of sorely needed supplies couldn't have come at a worse time.
When Ted Nugent learned of this soulless crime, he didn't hesitate. The story broke on March 26. And by March 27, Ted Nugent had made arrangements to replace all the meat that was stolen.
"We were struggling to make ends meet," said Kate Reed, Development Coordinator for the Shelter.
"We've actually received more than what was taken. The outpouring of support has been tremendous!"
