ANTHONY BOURDAIN: NO RESERVATIONS
EPISODE: Southwest Road Trip Special
August 4 on the Travel Channel at 10PM EST
Tony is off on a great American road trip, ready to explore the quirky, dark, classic Americana that is the country's Southwestern region. Plunked down in the middle of California's Mojave Desert, Tony stops for a quick fix at the local (and only) highway food stand, Crazy Coyote Tacos. Then it's on to Bombay Beach,
where the unofficial mayor, Laszlo Oros, shows Tony around town, Refreshed and ready to rock, Tony meets up with one of the kings of rock, Alice Cooper, in Phoenix. Alice introduces Tony to what might just be the mightiest hot dog ever created. The next day brings Tony to Hatch, New Mexico, known for its red and green chiles. Judd Nordyke, mayor of Hatch, takes Tony to breakfast at The Pepper Pot, after which Tony & crew try their hand at white water rafting-and tamale pot pies.
It's time for Tony to get on the road again, as he is supposed to meet-up with legendary rocker, Ted Nugent, on his ranch in Texas. Once in Texas, Tony and Ted head to Rusty Star BBQ, in Waco, a hole in the wall joint known for its barbecued brisket. After the meal they head back to Nuge's ranch for a quick jam session before dinner. Dinner being some Rio Grande turkeys that Ted has skinned, marinated, and thrown into a huge fire pit. While the turkeys cook, Ted introduces Tony to some of his favorite everyday activities - shooting bow-and-arrows, riding ATVs, and testing the fire power of a couple of machine guns. All in a day's work for the Nuge! The music is rockin', the guns are still hot, and the dinner is finally cooked. Tony and Ted sit back, relax, and enjoy a delicious Texan meal by the light of the fire.
Check out the footage of Anthony visiting the Nuge ranch.
And here's a clip of their conversation about obesity.
