Kid Rock kicked off a record-breaking string of 10 sold-out shows in a row at Detroit’s venerated DTE Energy Music Theatre on August 7—with a little help from his friends.
The crowd of more than 15,000 was expecting Rock’s big hits, like “Cowboy,” “All Summer Long,” and “Born Free.” What they didn’t expect was a surprise appearance by the Motor City Madman himself – Ted Nugent!
Just as Rock was launching into the intro of “Cat Scratch Fever,” Nugent stormed the stage and demonstrated why he was named Detroit’s Greatest Guitar Player of All Time by readers of MLive. The jam with the two Michigan icons was an indelible moment for Detroit fans.
“Kid Rock and The Nuge rocking the stage together? Total meltdown! Too awesome to tolerate!” said concert-goer Toby Benoit.
Of course, Nugent is no stranger to DTE, formerly known as Pine Knob Music Theatre. Nugent has been selling out the venue since it opened in the early 70’s. And it was here that he celebrated his phenomenal 6,500th live performance on July 19th, 2014.
At Kid Rock’s personal invitation, Ted returned for an encore performance the following night, on August 8.
“Killer Rock-N-Roll is wonderful wherever you celebrate it, but when the Kid Rock and Uncle Ted MotorCity planets align, the outrage factor is off the charts!” said Nugent. “Kid Rock and his amazing band continue the uniquely volatile tradition of high energy soulmusic that Detroiters created and carry on with pure animal vigor. Good Lord almighty did we have a great time!”
Over the course of his storied career, rock icon Ted Nugent has set countless records in the worlds of entertainment and the shooting sports. So it should come as no surprise that he’s setting records again—this time on social media. During the last week, Nugent has reached an astonishing 31.7 million people with his bold and articulate postings on Facebook.
At some point, you’ve likely heard Nugent on radio or television:
“Ted Nugent is one of the greatest guests you could ever get, because he commands rapt attention when he speaks, and there is nothing formulaic about what he has to say. He is unfathomably quotable, and dynamically entertaining.” –Jack Harris, Co-Host AM Tampa Bay, 970/WFLA
It’s long been noted that Nugent writes like he talks. Given this, he’s uniquely suited to the genre of social media. Ted makes his points, and makes them unapologetically. And it gets people talking. With more than 2.4 million likes, his posts are shared again and again–sparking lively dialogue with fans and foes alike.
In other Nuge News, join Ted, Trace Adkins, The Oak Ridge Boys and more at the CHARLIE DANIELS 40TH ANNIVERSARY VOLUNTEER JAM August 12 in Nashville. Tickets are available now at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena Box Office and All Ticketmaster Locations.
Emmy-award winner Rita Cosby welcomes Ted Nugent back to WABC for an all new, in-depth interview on The Rita Cosby Show. Tune in to 77 WABC New York Sunday August 2 at 6am, or access the interview on-demand here.
